It would be great to be able to set a maximum image/file size (in dimensions and/or Kbs) for when members post images within a message? Some of these photos can distort the layout of the message window and/or delays the page from loading. I've seen this feature in other forums and it's nice to have.
Thanks Jonmark, but I was referring to inline images from the Display Image tool. There's no config setting that I can find that prevents a member from posting a massively large image within a post and having it distort the message window lags it from appearing.
Hey Jonmark, posted an inline image (nothing fancy, just an orange rectangle).
Imagine if this were a photo though, not optimized for the web and pretty much raw out of the camera with a monster resolution. On some of the bigger ones I can't even go in as a mod and edit them in IE because the edit command doesn't show.
So the forum settings Attachment file size limit should help this issue. It will not stop users from posting large single color jpg images, but if they do that then they are just being jerks and need to be moderated anyway.. *grin*

Thanks Jonmark, didn't know that the file attachment setting carried over to the inline image display. You're right, can't do anything about the dimensions but I'll drop the max file size and that should help curb the issue.
Okay, so the file attachment size is capped at 110 KB. But if you look at this post you'll find an image that weighs in at 143 KB. How is this getting by the file size cap?
OK, now that makes sense. Sorry for my misunderstanding. I was still thinking you were talking about attachments.
The only way that Eve could restrict these images would be to act as a proxy between the original image and the user. So when posting the app would have to parse for the images and then replace the URL with a new URL which goes through Eve. Eve would then have to download the image and resize it, serving it directly.
Interesting idea, thanks for the thought.
Cheers,
